How the data is collected

Patients submit what they paid out of pocket for a specific procedure in a specific city: the number after Medicare and any private health rebate. They tell us whether they had private health cover and whether they received a written quote beforehand. We combine this with MBS schedule data and publicly available pricing references to build a layered picture.

Clinics cannot pay for placement. Provider-supplied pricing is not accepted without independent patient verification. We are funded by neither health funds nor providers. That independence is the whole point.

What we don’t do

We don’t host clinical reviews or rank surgeons by outcomes. We don’t publish before-and-after photos. We don’t pretend that a low cost means a better provider. A cheap procedure in a particular suburb might reflect a high-volume bulk-billing practice, a highly subsidised public patient pathway, or an inexperienced practitioner. Cost alone tells you nothing about quality, only about what you might expect to pay.
